West Weekly Connect: January 23 – January 27, 2023

  • Office Hours: West High offices are open Monday-Friday from 8:00-4:00.
  • West Request: Students will be completing class registration on Thursday during PAC class. The 2023-2024 course catalog is now available on the West High website.
  • Early Release: Friday, January 27 is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 1:45.
  • End of Term: Term 2 ends on Friday, January 27.
  • ELP Open House: ELP Open House for prospective 7th and 8th graders Thursday, January 26 from 5:30-6:30 in the Auditorium.
  • Job Shadow Opportunity: The Utah Jazz is offering a during game Job Shadow on February 1st. Students interested in Business, athletics, broadcasting, or public relations that want an unprecedented behind the scenes experience with a professional should apply in the CTE office, Room 318 by January 23rd.
  • IB Q & A: There will be an IB Q & A Zoom session on Monday, January 23 at 7:00 pm. Families of 9th and 10th grade students are invited to ask their questions to current IB juniors and seniors. This is a great opportunity for underclassmen to learn more and prepare for IB.
  • Semester 2 Class Changes: Students with a hole in their schedule for second semester, please schedule an appointment with your counselor by using the QR codes posted outside of the counseling center. You will not be allowed to wait in the halls to meet with your counselor.
  • PAC Update:
    • Last week your 7th/8th grader learned about registering for classes next year. Your student will request classes for next year in PAC on Jan 26. Talk to them about their classes for next year!
    • Last week your 9th/10th and 11th grader attended West Fest where they had a chance to see the options for honors and elective classes and programs we offer at West High! Ask them about West Fest and what classes they found that they would like to try. Your student will request classes for next in PAC on January 26. Have a conversation with them about their schedule for next year!
    • Last week your senior looked at scholarship opportunities and looked at their current grades for this term. We are only two weeks out from the end of the term. Ask them how their grades look this term and what they need to do to finish strong!
  • Emergency Kits: PTSA is making emergency kits to help keep students comfortable and safe in case of emergency. For more information on how you can help, click Emergency Kit Flyer.
  • Concurrent Students: We just received some exciting news regarding the tuition waiver available to concurrent enrollment students. Beginning immediately CE students who have completed 6 or more SLCC concurrent enrollment credits, earned a 3.0 or better GPA, and are US citizens, will be automatically awarded the CE Transition Waiver. That waiver will be applied the first two semesters they register for courses at SLCC after high school graduation. The amount will vary depending on the number of credits their register for at SLCC after high school. For 6-8 credits they will be awarded $500, for 9-11 credits $750, and for 12+ $1000.   • ACT Study Sessions: Teens ages 14-18 can work with tutors from the Bennion Center. Prepare for the ACT Exam and learn testing tips and tricks. You can even get help solving homework problems. Sessions run January 19-April 9. Snacks and practice tests are provided. Registration is not required at this time.
