Follow the link below. You will need a Cap and Gown Rental unit (includes a tassel).  Jostens offers many more products to celebrate your senior year, but the only necessary items for walking across the stage are the Cap and Gown Rental unit for $39.95

Graduation! – Jon M Huntsman Center at the University of Utah; be at the Huntsman Center by 3:00 pm.  Commencement Ceremony starts at 4:00 pm

  • Note:  Cords and regalia are subject to change and will be updated as more information is received from clubs. Cords are listed in 6 categories.  The requirements are listed for each student to be able to receive this recognition.  Students can find a list of the cords they will be receiving on April 20, 2026 in the Counseling Center.

    1.  Academic Honors

    -3.5 Cumulative GPA:  over the course of the last 4 years of high school, student GPA needs to be at a minimum of 3.5 in order to receive this cord.  GPAs will be assessed for each student at the beginning of second semester, however they will be reevaluated at the beginning of 4th term.  A recipient may be eligible at semester but may change due to 3rd term grades.

    -AP Scholar:  granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.  This is evaluated at the beginning of student senior year.

    -Armed Services:  students who have signed a contract to enter full time US military service after  high school graduation.

    -First Gen to go to College:  students whose parents (both) have never received a college diploma

    -First Gen to graduate from High School: students whose parents (both) did not receive a high school diploma.

    -Global Scholar:  students who started learning English as a second language starting summer after their 8th grade year.

    -Honors Diploma:  students must have the following criteria completed by 3rd term of their senior year to qualify for an honors diploma

    • Have a 3.50 or higher cumulative GPA
    • Must average four (4) IB, AP, Concurrent or Honors credits each year, The total number of IB, AP, Concurrent or Honors credit will be at least sixteen (16) for the four years of High School.
    • Of the 16 credits, the student must complete a minimum of three AP, IB or Concurrent credits while at West High.
    • Must take at least two (2) years of a world language in grades 9-12. World Language classes at level three or above will count as Honors Credit.

    -IB Career Path:  Students in the IB career path will quality according to the requirements from the IB program.

    -IB Class:  Students who have taken at least 1 IB class during their high school career. NOTE:  If students are enrolled in the IB Career Path or IB Diploma program, they do NOT qualify for this recognition.

    -IB Diploma:  Students in the IB Diploma path will quality according to the requirements from the IB program.

    -National Honor Society:  Become a member of the National Honor Society through application, maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA, and completing service hours.  See Advisor for details.

    -National Merit:  Take the PSAT/NMSQT during Junior year, qualify as a semifinalist based on your test score.

    -Seal of Biliteracy:  Students who are proficient in English and one or more World Language (pass a nationally or internationally language assessment with advisor)

    -Service Learning:  applications are found in the Counseling Center.  150 hours of service in the community starting the summer after 8th grade year through senior year.  Applications due April 15, 2026.

    -Sterling Scholars:  GPA of 3.0 or higher, ACT score of 17 or higher, nomination from school (application process).  Finalists for West High school will qualify for this recognition.

    -Title VII Program Recipients:  According to H.B. 30, students who are recognized tribal members will be allowed to wear tribal clothing as recognition for graduation.  These stoles and hats are provided by the district.

    2.  UHSAA: students need to meet a GPA requirement, attendance and participation in Varsity qualifying games, meets, and matches.  Please see athletic director for details for each individual sport/activity

    -These include sports, music, choir, debate, and theatre.

    3.  CTSO:  Career and Technical Student Organizations

    DECA, FBLA, HOSA, FEELC:  Student participating in these organizations for at least 70% of their senior year, will receive a PIN in recognition due to their organization.

    CTE Cords:  students who pass 2 or more CTE Skills tests

    CTE Medallion:  Students who complete a CTE Pathway with 3 credits  with 1 of the credits that is a Concentrator Course class.

    CTE Apprenticeship:  Students who complete a CTE apprenticeship.

    4.  School Sponsored Curricular Clubs and Classes

    -American Sign Language Honor Society:  See advisor for requirements; these could possibly include a GPA requirement, service hours, and attendance to events.

    -Arabic Honor Society:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -AVID:

    -Chinese Club:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -Drama Club:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -German Honor Society:  see advisor for requirements; these could possibly include a GPA requirement, service hours, and attendance to events.

    -Latinos in Action:  see advisor for requirements; these could possibly include a GPA requirement, service hours, and attendance to events.

    -Navy JROTC 3+ years:  participate in the JROTC class for at least 3 years.

    -Newspaper:  student must attend at least 70% of the class meetings

    -ProStart:  student must attend at least 70% of the class meetings; see advisor for all requirements.

    -Red Rock Robotics:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -Student Government: student needs to be in the Student Government class in good standing for a full year.

    -West High Dance Company:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -West Winds Literary Magazine:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -Yearbook:  student must attend at least 70% of the class meetings

    5. Student Driven Clubs

    -Black Student Union:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -Equity Student Advocacy Club:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -Key Club:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -Krakens Ultimate Frisbee:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -Native American Club:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -Panther Virus:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings

    -West High Ghana Club:  student must attend at least 70% of the club meetings
