West High Robotics Team Shines at Utah Regional, Teacher Alison Bulson Wins Award For Her Dedication
West High’s Red Rock Robotics team (#3006) had an outstanding showing at the Utah Regional competition, showcasing their technical skill, teamwork, and dedication to the field of robotics. Competing against 38 other teams, Red Rock Robotics finished qualification matches ranked 8th and advanced to the finals as part of the 4th-seeded alliance, ultimately securing a 3rd-place finish.
Prestigious Awards Earned
In addition to their strong performance in competition, the team also took home several prestigious awards:

Team Award: Innovation in Control – This award recognizes teams that demonstrate a unique and effective use of control systems to enhance their robot’s functionality.

Dean’s List Award: Ella Frandsen – This individual award honors students who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to advancing the mission of FIRST Robotics.

Woodie Flowers Award: Alison Bulson – This distinguished honor is given to a mentor who has inspired students through clear and effective communication, motivating them to excel in robotics and beyond. Alison Bulson is one of only five Utah recipients of this award, marking her as a leader in the state’s robotics community.
Behind the Scenes Contributions
Beyond competing, Red Rock Robotics played an essential role in the event’s success by volunteering in various capacities:

Safety Glasses Table – One of only two teams that provided volunteers to staff the safety glasses distribution stations.

Honoring Alison Bulson’s Dedication
A special congratulations goes to Alison Bulson, who was awarded the Woodie Flowers Award for her extraordinary dedication to the West Robotics Program. As the lead mentor of Team 3006, she has invested over 300 hours per year for the past seven years, guiding the team to its most successful performances. Her passion for robotics is evident—not only through her mentorship but also through her personalized team-themed truck and license plate!
Looking Ahead: Idaho Regional
With momentum from their success at the Utah Regional, Red Rock Robotics is preparing for their next challenge: the Idaho Regional, taking place March 26-30. The team is eager to continue competing at a high level and building on their impressive achievements.
