West High German Teacher Kathy Barnard is Recognized as High School Foreign Language Teacher of the Year

West High School’s Kathy Barnard has been named the 2025 Foreign Language Teacher of the Year for the state of Utah, an honor awarded by the Utah Foreign Language Association (UFLA).

Barnard, a dedicated language educator, was recognized for her outstanding commitment to language instruction, her impact on students, and her contributions to the field. Teresa Bell, president of UFLA, presented the award in person during a ceremony on campus on Jan. 29.

The UFLA Foreign Language Teacher of the Year award recognizes excellence in language instruction at all educational levels. Recipients demonstrate innovation in the classroom, advocate for language education, and serve as leaders in their field.
