West 8th Graders Excel at Science Fair
Two West High 8th grade ELPers, Peter Kim and Aashita Mandiwal, were named members of the Top 300 Junior Innovators in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC). This is the highest level of competition for middle school science fair (international competition), and is an extension of their work from last year’s science fair.
They will receive $125 from Department of Defense STEM and a prize package. They are in the running for more prizes. The top 30 finalists of the challenge will be announced September 18. If they advance, they will have the opportunity to compete in Washington, DC for cash awards, including a $25,000 Thermo Fisher Scientific ASCEND (Aspiring Scientists Cultivating Exciting New Discoveries) Award.
