Scholarship Information

Dear West High Community,

My name is Delilah and I am the Scholarship Advisor at West. Apart from many other things, I post college and scholarship information regularly, mainly on

·         The website –

https://west.slcschools.org/academics/counseling-center/scholarship-information

·         Instagram - @westscholarships

·         Monthly newsletter sent to your email

·         Morning announcements

·         Notice Board outside the guidance center

·         In my office, room 325, across from the guidance center

·         Email: Delilah.Martis@slcschools.org

College Visits

Through fall, I coordinate in person and virtual visits from Admissions Officers of out-of-state colleges. While these are mostly attended by Seniors, all grades (and even parents) are welcome. This is an ever-changing list, please look out for the most updated list on the website regularly.

October – Utah College Application Month

October is Utah College Application Month. Most Utah Colleges waive application fees this month. We will also have many Utah College Admission Reps help students with college applications this month. Please make use of these opportunities to apply to Utah colleges in October. Here is a list of fee waiver codes for October:

https://ushe.edu/wp-content/uploads/pdf/k-12/ucaw/2021/2021_UCAW-application-fee-waiver-info.pdf

FAFSA

October is also when the FAFSA for current seniors opens. Seniors please complete the FAFSA to qualify not only for federal financial aid but also for aid from colleges as well as to qualify for some scholarships. Again, we have resources available to help students and families complete and submit the FAFSA.

Here is a helpful FAFSA walkthrough video and a handy document (Section 4, pages 21 to 64) to help with getting started or answering FAFSA queries:

Scholarships

Here is a list of some scholarships with October to December deadlines. This is constantly being updated and so please look at the website for the most updated list. This is not a comprehensive list. For more scholarships please look at other scholarship search websites as well. Some useful websites are:

https://completescholarships.org/ for Utah based scholarships

https://www.ktsutah.org/ for more Utah based scholarships and college and career resources

www.fastweb.com and www.goingmerry.com (among others) for national scholarships

https://dream.utah.edu//dream_scholarships.php and https://educate-utah.org/scholarships/

for undocumented students

https://www.collegeboard.org/ for college search resources

Again, these are just some starting points and are not a comprehensive list.

Private scholarship details vary. Please check websites for complete details, latest updates, deadlines and other requirements. If letters of recommendation are required please ask recommenders early, giving them enough time to write your letter.

When you receive any scholarship offers, even if you choose to not accept them, please report them to me. We need to keep an accurate report of all scholarships and awards for each year. This includes all athletic, leadership, service, diversity, academic, private, and college scholarships. Your effort is much appreciated as self-reporting is often our only means of discovery.
