Graduating Senior Scholarships
Each year, the West High Alumni Association aims to help graduating West High seniors pursue their higher education goals.
The number of scholarships awarded each year varies, but are awarded to deserving West High seniors who are committed to pursuing a college education and demonstrate financial need.
Applications for incoming college freshmen for the 2022-2023 academic year (West High Class of 2022) are now open.

JUNIORS – low income / from underrepresented communities / first generation / academically middle performing with the potential to improve
EY College MAP is a multi-year, group mentoring program focused on enabling and empowering students from underserved backgrounds so that they can gain access to college and succeed in higher education.
Team-mentoring by EY professionals, Monthly meetings, approximately 2 hours each at West High School

Private scholarship details vary. Please check websites for complete details, latest updates, deadlines and other requirements. If letters of recommendation are required please ask recommenders early, giving them enough time to write your letter.
When you receive any scholarship offers, even if you choose to not accept them, please report them to me. We need to keep an accurate report of all scholarships and awards for each year. This includes all athletic, leadership, service, diversity, academic, private, and college scholarships. Your effort is much appreciated as self-reporting is often our only means of discovery.

Bennington Young Writers Award
Criteria: 9th-12th grade students submit one of the following categories: poetry, fiction or nonfiction.
Amount: $250-500 (Winners and finalist also eligible for undergraduate scholarships at Bennington up to $60,000)

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (West High students have won in past years)
Criteria: U.S. Citizen 15 to 18 years old at the start of the program. Applicant must have minimum GPA of 2.5.
Amount: NSLI for Youth scholarships cover all program costs, including round-trip travel to the Program host city, tuition, educational and cultural activities, pre-departure and re-entry orientations, visa fees, room and board, and accident and sickness program for exchanges (ASPE) health benefits.

Prudential Emerging Visionaries (formerly Prudential Spirit Of Community Awards)
Criteria: People aged 14 to 18. Legal U.S. residents.
Projects started on or before June 1, 2021 in the following categories: Financial Solutions for a Changing World or Societal Solutions for a Changing World.
Amount: Up to $15,000

NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (West High Students have won in past years)
Criteria: 9th-12th grade students who self-identify as women, genderqueer, or non-binary. Aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by computing related activities and experience, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education.
Amount: Varies

Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards
Criteria: High school senior of Hispanic heritage. GPA of 3.0 or higher. Permanent Resident, U.S Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen.

Daniels Fund
Criteria: High school senior, US citizen / permanent resident with demonstrated financial need. Strength of character, leadership potential, academic performance.

University of Utah MLK Youth Leadership Awards (West High Students have been awarded in past years)
The University of Utah’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Leadership Award honors outstanding students from across the State of Utah for their dedication to the beliefs of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through community service and leadership.
This year, U Alumni is also offering tuition scholarships to four high school seniors.
Nomination Requirements:
Students and nominators must submit the following:
A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, employer, or community member
Essay or video submitted by the student highlighting their community service and leadership based on the theme of MLK Week (“Choose Love Over Hate”).
Scholarship Details: 4 high school seniors can receive a tuition scholarship of $4,000 per student for the 2022-2023 academic year ($2,000/ semester). The student must enroll at the University of Utah by August 2023 to receive the funds. There is no financial need or academic requirement for the student.

James Alan Cox Photography Scholarship
Criteria: Sophomore and above. Should have taken at least one photography or related art class.

Opportunity Scholarship (Many West High Students have won every year
Criteria: Seniors who have graduated from a Utah High school, taken the required classes in grades 9-12, have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and have filled out the FASFA
Priority Deadline: Opens Nov 15, 2022! Priority deadline is December 2, 2022 and the final deadline is February 1, 2023

Geneva Rock
Criteria: Must be enrolled in a postsecondary program that leads to a construction-related career. Citizenship and/or residency restrictions apply.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors with at least 3.5 GPA, exceptional academic ability and achievement participation in available advanced courses. Demonstrate financial need – family income up to $95,000. Leadership and service. Apply through the common app!

Freedom’s Foundation At Valley Forge Utah Chapter
2023 Spirit of America Youth Conference
Criteria: High School Juniors and seniors (11th and 12th grade). Academics. Leadership. Citizenship. Essay and 4 copies of application postmarked latest November 19, 2022. Students selected to attend the conference are asked to pay $400.00 toward the total cost of $1,200.00 (for conference, airfare, room and board)

Unigo Education Matters Scholarship
Criteria: 14 years and older. 250-word essay on "What would you say to someone who thinks education doesn't matter, or that college is a waste of time and money?"

Equitable Excellence Scholarship
Criteria: High school seniors who demonstrate ambition and self-drive by outstanding achievement in an activity in school, community, or workplace.

Criteria: Seniors. Participate in a program-approved readiness program (GearUp/ AVID etc). Pell eligible. 2.4 GPA or higher, be on track from high school.
Amount: $20,000, laptop and textbook credits

The Science Ambassador Scholarship
Criteria: Female High School senior must film a three- minute video of yourself explaining a STEM topic.

Criteria: High School Juniors. Demonstrate financial need.

Seniors please complete the FAFSA if you have not already, to qualify not only for federal financial aid but also for aid from colleges as well as to qualify for some scholarships.
